With this Manchester Utd newspaper book Red Devils fans will be able to discover just how this worldwide dynasty was created. In 1902 the name of the club was changed to Manchester United and this name has stuck ever since.
Manchester United is one of the most well known and wealthy teams in the world and in 2011 it was number one in the Forbes list of the 50 most valuable teams in the world. However Manchester United were not always so fortunate as in 1902 it had a total debt of 2,670 and it was served with a winding up order. Four local businessmen invested in the club and it was them who changed the name of the club to Manchester United. In 1906 the team finished as the Second Division runners up and by 1908 they had won the First Division.
By 1922 and after the First World War the club had been relegated back to the Second Division and they stayed there until 1925, they were once back in the Second Division again by 1931.
In 1945 Matt Busby was appointed manager of the team and he led them to victory in 1948 when they won the FA Cup. From here onwards the club moved forward for a couple of decades or so until Ron Atkinson was manager and he carried on the tradition of winning, at first. Unfortunately by the end of the 1986-87 season the club were dangerously close to relegation and he was dismissed.
It was then that Alex Ferguson took over the club and he managed to change the club around and they went on to win many trophies including the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final, the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2008-09 Football League. The stadium has a total capacity of 75,811 and it is an all seated stadium that is considered to be one of the best in the world.
